Have we been honest with our kids?

I have observed how parents cope with questions, especially embarrassing ones, from inquisitive children. Some are put in difficult situations simply because of language.

For example, an English educated parent trying so hard to converse in Mandarin because the children are studying in Chinese school, and vice versa. Sometimes, it is better not to teach obviously wrong things, and to leave it to the professional teachers.

But we cannot escape answering questions when we are least prepared, as shown in the following examples from Calvin and Hobbes:
