My wife and I went to TM Point in Jalan Yong Shook Lin today to sort out an ex-tenant's telephone bill before applying for a new line.
When asked why rentals were charged despite the line disconnected, the counter staff explained that it was only 'suspension' of service and that the rentals were for the fixed line cable. Upon suspension of service, during the first 3 months, the line cannot be used to call out, but able to receive calls. For the next 3 months, it cannot even receive calls. To disconnect the present line the owner of the house has to have a statutory declaration confirming that the ex- tenant could not be found despite efforts to track her down.
The chap advised us to use the Commissioner of Oaths who has an office a few doors away. When my wife told him that she is living in Batu Gajah, he became more interested and then he recognized her as a former classmate in a Primary school in Pusing!
Anyway, with the Statutory Declaration, we went back to Telekom and upon further checking their records, it was established that the ex-tenant has a streamyx account somewhere else and the broadband bills sent there while the fixed line rentals have always been sent to the house.
We managed to convince the man to change the address of the billings to the other one as well. It is too late for March bill but from April onwards we shall be free of this mail.
