Superstitious fear of the Tiger...

and it has nothing to do with Tiger Wood, the world's best golfer, who is currently in the news for all the wrong reasons.

If as generally believed by the Chinese, the recent 'flood' of wedding invitations is likely to end just before the Chinese New Year of the Tiger. Chinese restaurants never had it so good, with all the unpopular weekdays fully booked too. Then as predicted, there will only be a trickle of such invitations during the new year. The 'flood' is because of people trying to avoid getting married in the year of the Tiger.

I can still remember a niece, born in the year of the Tiger, had two bridal cars to fetch her - one for the groom and one for her! This was because of a general fear of marrying a Tiger girl.

Pictures of tigers are normally not hanged in the house, for fear of the adverse effects from it. So whenever I see such pictures being sold, I tend to think, 'you will have problem selling those!'

Sometimes, with superstitions, ignorance is bliss. I would take it with a pinch of salt. I am supposed to be a Tiger, yet the Pig of the house decides most times! Unless, we believe in the Cantonese saying, 'parn chee sek lou fu' or 'disguised as a pig to eat the tiger'!
