A few days ago, I received a sms from an old friend, Fadzil, inviting us to his daughter's wedding dinner in KL. Since it is on a day between two invitations, I immediately confirmed that we will be attending.
It brought back memories of our UK days. My wife remembered Aida was only a week old when we were on our way to Heathrow Airport and we stopped at their place in Wakefield. That was 30 years ago! She is a year younger than our son.
For a certain period, we used to visit each other on alternate weekends, taking turns to play host for lunch or dinner. Unfortunately, Awa did not live to witness her daughter's wedding.
Incidentally, the last time Fadzil visited us in Batu Gajah, he told us Aida is working for Roadbuilders the contractor building the KTMB's Railway Central Workshop here!
Then, my Australian friend (ex-Malaysian), together with another former classmate, are planning to visit us towards the end of the month, by train just for the nostalgia. I told them I will leave them stranded for a while before fetching them from the new station, just so that they can have it first-hand the 'in the middle of nowhere' feeling. My friend's father was an engineer with KTM and they used to live in the Sentul railway quarters. The new Railway Central Workshop in BG should be an eye-opener for him. I have not tried and therefore unsure if it is out of bounds to visitors.
