Deal done despite delays...

Last Saturday, I accompanied a friend to Yamaha at Kelana Jaya on a mission to buy a solid acoustic guitar. It was almost called off because he was put off by the sales representative over the phone. So the journey started sort of 'half-heartedly'.

He had a map to guide him while my knowledge was having been there more than 10 years ago, having bought a Baldwin piano at a warehouse sale there. It was like a half-blind leading a blind.
The route we took I had never taken before but I relied on the main landmarks like the 'Penang bridge lookalike' junction of the Federal Highway. My initial offer of using my usual route to it and then only rely on the map was not taken. We were alright until the turnoff to SS3 and needed a call to the staff of Yamaha to confirm that we should continue on the flyover after which we should be able to see Yamaha.

When we arrived we did not know that the sales representative was the one playing on the digital piano! After introduction, he brought out the guitar to show him. He was quite happy with the sound while I could hear the sound to be slightly better than normal guitar, so I thought. Then it was a case of one problem after another: while trying to fix it up, I happened to mention about my piano purchase more than 10 years ago, and he knew all about the Baldwin pianos, including how it was taken over by Yamaha then. He appeared distracted by my topic and my friend was getting impatient. Anyway, at least three batteries were changed (and there was even a moment of none available because they were locked up by the guitar reps), yet no sound coming from the amplifier. Even after having tried 3 amplifiers, still no sound from the speaker. He even tried it on the digital piano and the sound was loud enough to make a difference. A Indonesian customer suggested that it could be because of the 'jet' or lead which connects the guitar to the amplifier. When a proper jet was used, the sound was beautifully amplified. Apparently, a stereo jet was used instead!

It is amazing how if someone had made up his mind to buy, he is prepared to tolerate circumstances which he normally would not.
