Empty nests and being home alone...

In one of my earlier posts, I mentioned about a sister-in-law being admitted into a hospital in KL.

On our way back from KL after visiting her the night before, my wife got a call from her requesting for a cup of 'hot tea'! My immediate reaction was, 'can't she order one from the hospital cafe?' Anyway, SP called her brother who is on a visit from overseas and staying in his sister's house but no response. She called the house, no one answered; same with calling another sister's handphone and house. We did not have her maid's handphone number nor her driver's. Husband happens to be overseas, so are two children. It so happened she so badly wanted a hot cup of English tea (a sign that she is recovering) at the time when everyone seemed to be on the way to or from hospital.

I still remember what SP said to the sisters: 'we now have to look after each other because most of our children are overseas.' Among 4 sisters, two in Ipoh and two in KL - so much for looking after each other! Upon further analysis, out of 10 children among them, 8 are overseas! This situation must be quite common these days. I am not too sure whether this is considered a good thing.
