Procrastination might be better?

Type ‘Murphy’s Law’ and we have over 1.2 million results! The first item on the list is Wikipedia with the following information which interests me (not going to delve further, this being a light-hearted site):

Murphy's law is an adage that broadly states: "Anything that can go wrong will go wrong."

For example, in 1841 a newspaper in Norwalk, Ohio printed this verse (a parody of famous lines in Thomas Moore's ...):
I never had a slice of bread,
Particularly large and wide,
That did not fall upon the floor,
And always on the buttered side.

My wife asked me to bank in a cheque for her. It was a house cheque of the local Maybank. I advised her that it would be better (already weekend) to wait till Monday, to put it in a special box for ‘House cheques’.

Monday happened to be a public holiday for the states but not Federal Territories like Kuala Lumpur. I even called up my friend in KL who confirmed that Bursa Malaysia is open and presumably the banks too. But, the local Maybank was closed. So what was supposed to be a straightforward errand for someone on holiday from overseas, turned out to be a ‘wild goose chase for a cheque’! A transparent box for ‘Fast cheque envelopes’ was assumed to be one for ‘House cheques’. I had nagging doubts and I even told her that I was surprised they put the box which is normally on top of the bank service counter, at the machines section. Later, I took the trouble to check the place and did not find any such box, which confirmed my doubt earlier. Called up a friend who is an employee and she confirmed they never leave the box outside. Informed my wife who informed the drawer.

This morning, a gentleman called up my wife to ask why the cheque was found on the floor and asked what she wanted doing with it! Incidentally, this morning it did occur to me that to cancel the cheque might undo someone’s good intention (very unlikely) of putting it in the machine for us, but it would not be worth the risk of not cancelling it. Anyway, by the time the drawer called up the bank, he was told his account has been debited with the cheque amount, of this he informed her immediately.

The other incident, which did not reward my good intention, was the ‘wing mirror’ accident. The car was loaned to a relative who went on a short overseas holiday. Thinking that I should take the car for a service while they were away, it ended up creating new problems instead! I cannot help thinking it could have been better that I left things be. Murphy’s Law or Chinese 714 at work?
