Putting countries in the right perspectives

In terms of land area, Australia is much larger than the whole of Europe, as shown very clearly when the map of Europe is placed on that of Australia, using the same scale.

But in terms of population, Australia has only 21 million people (2008) while that of Europe is estimated at between 600 and 850 million, depending on definitions.

Malaysia is only slightly larger than Italy in land area, but its population at 28 million, is larger than Australia!
