Anti-ISA rally - double standards

Nazri said that as long as BN holds the power, ISA will not be abolished. So the police behaved accordingly - use tear gas and water canons on those who opposed ISA and arrested 438 people, while allowing a pro-ISA representative to pass through and hand over a memorandum to the King.

PM said there is no point in holding demonstrations causing unnecessary traffic jams and inconveniencing the public, as the government is reviewing the ISA. The people had enough of empty promises for the past 40 years on this matter, which was why they had to do something to pressure the government.

ISA had been abused from one meant for the communists to one for suppressing their political opponents.

If not for the police actions in closing roads, there would not have been traffic congestions. It seemed like a deliberate act to make the demonstrators look bad so that the people would turn against them. In Britain, the police would have helped control traffic to enable the people to demonstrate peacefully, but not here.
