The name Beng Hock brings back memories of the time when my second brother used to tease our nephew (second son of my eldest brother) to be his son, and the name just came out naturally as a suggested one for his name change. It was all just banter then and my nephew himself is now 52!
Teoh Beng Hock, the unfortunate aide of Ean Yong, who died mysteriously at MACC headquarters as a result of unreasonable 8 hours of 'questioning' right up till 3.45am, will be a martyr for the alleged plot by BN to topple the Selangor Pakatan state government. It is incredible but I have just read that MACC will be questioning all 36 PR representatives! If this is not harassment, I don't know what is!
As I have commented in other blogs, only in Malaysia that we have federal opposition MPs who are not given due development funds to be used for their constituencies, while the ruling state governments under federal opposition coalition are not allowed to use them too. This is shown by the shameless unreasonable actions by MACC over 'cows and cars' and now, relatively small Rm10,000 disbursements are being questioned as though it was a crime. In Penang, Gerakan youth chief even demanded transparency for the Chief Minister's house rental when the official residence was being treated for termite infestation! This was in spite of the rental being paid out of CM's allowance! How petty can they get?
Is it a coincidence that Najib is also Selangor Umno chief? As Perak Umno chief, he engineered the power grab. That's Najib's 1Malaysia for us: I am No.1 in Malaysia and I want Malaysia to be under 1 party, ok?
The 15th, 16th and 17th component parties of BN (to quote Raja Petra as mentioned in Antares's Magick River), would not have acted on their own without instructions from the top. While Anwar was convicted of corruption for merely giving instructions to a Special Branch Director, we can imagine the many instances our leaders could have done so when carrying out their duties, with impunity. This was an example of selective prosecution. As someone mentioned before, the difference between Anwar and Najib as DPM was that the former was under a strong man while the latter was under a weak one. In fact, he had probably more powers than the PM then!
I think BN is beyond redemption. If I were a leader of any of the component parties, I would take it out of the coalition under Umno. I would be so ashamed being associated with the unscrupulous actions which are being played out in recent years. Just remember, one can be guilty by association. Even if not charged and convicted, I hope your conscience will prick you for the rest of your life.

MACC since its morphing from ACA has yet to show its independence and credibility. So what isn't possible? It depends on the person who is asked, on what was the most likely, happened.
ReplyDeleteMost people would have doubts about him committing suicide eg. supposed to register his marriage and was cheerful until the 'interrogation'. Furthermore, not being a suspect but a witness, what was there to worry unless, unacceptable methods were used?
Personally, I would not rule out the allegation that he was being forced into admitting something to implicate his boss, Ean Yong.
Only God knows and anyone guilty knows. We can argue until the cows come home (something which could excite MACC) but officially it would be one thing and unofficially the public would have another.
The only way to improve, is for MACC and other government agencies, to be true to their work and show us credibility (like no discrimination in terms of political divide) instead of spin. They might be able to get away from unexplained deaths in custody but such incidents are too frequent not to raise suspicions.
