Police have arrested 5 people who were preparing tents and a big baloon outside Perak DAP headquarters, for a hunger strike by Pakatan MB Nizar and Speaker, Sivakumar. What else is new, coming from the police?
Strong arm tactics are not going to work these days. What used to be effective during Dr. Mahathir era will be damaging BN beyond redemption.
Police actions lately seem to suggest the fear and paranoia of BN leaders over the possibility of losing each and every by-election and possibly the 13th General Elections. Otherwise, why the high-handed manner in arresting small groups having candlelight vigils, wearing black T-shirts and now, even when Nizar and Siva prepare for a hunger strike!
In trying to show he means business, the IGP seems to put fear among the people over expressions of dissent. The double-standard in carrying their duties stood out like sore thumbs. Rabble-rouser Khairy could demonstrate with impunity while opposition MPs and ADUNs are arrested over minor infringements of the law.
As the saying goes, respect has to be earned. What good is it if the people are forced to whisper their dissatisfaction and anger for fear of arrests?
What the people fear in BN not honouring any eventual loss of control over the country seems to bear out with each uncompromising stance of the police over relatively small infringements of the law.
What is the basis for the arrests? The police seems to be arresting everyone and anyone at will, except those who really commit crimes of violence such as snatch thieves, mat rempits, etc.

ReplyDeleteThe police should use a more human approach in such a political situation. As a non-partisan organisation to serve the rakyat it would be much appreciated to practise tolerance an patience.By such approach, it would help redeem their already damage image and image of the Govt.
ReplyDeleteThe police should include in their induction course, understanding of the doctrine of separation of powers of the executive, the legislative and the judiciary; impartiality when carrying out their duties without fear or favour; respect for all elected representatives unless they have broken the law and so on.
ReplyDeleteWhat we have seen were examples of police violating the sanctity of the State Assembly of Perak on the one hand and the respect for Parliament's, showing blatant partiality when it suited their political masters.
There was no respect shown for elected representatives when they were arrested for minor infringement of the law. We can go on and on.
With the benefit of hindsight, how much trouble could a hunger strike by Nizar and Sivakumar cause to the public? The large contingent of police was totally unnecessary while we were told they face shortage of staff.
Equally valid question is, Is the Police ruling the country?

Have you ever seen them destroy the drugs? No!
So, what happened to all the drugs seized? Distributed and recyled by Health Ministry or fed back into the black market?
Show me!!! Where are all the confiscated drugs? Then PUBLICLY destroy them!!!
