Being presumptuous
Friday's Star: "It is a matter for Tuanku to decide" said Pak Lah. But the same paper already has advertisements placed by MCA, Pahang State government and KL Kepong Bhd, congratulating Najib as the sixth PM of Malaysia. What about the planning and preparation for the grand ceremony at 10.00am? I think it was presumptuous, to say the least, if not misleading.
This reminds me of how, in the case of placing obituary advertisement in the newspapers, a family member or one of his staff would have to get ready the names of surviving family members for the purpose, even before the person actually died. I have come across mistakes where advertisements were placed hurriedly. Or when someone would go round gathering friends and associates to contribute so that big advertisements could be placed to congratulate someone who has been awarded a Datukship. In the latter case, I used to think people approached the newspaper individually about placing an advertisement to congratulate a certain new Datuk, and the newspaper staff sort out from there. But efficiency dictates planning and even drive to get those advertisements, to get the maximum effect.
