Just the other day, a friend was complaining about how some HK waiters in UK seem rude. I had to explain that sometimes, we have to consider what others think of our own behaviour too.
For example, many first-time visitors to UK might not be properly served in the pubs if they did not order politely eg. 'A pint of bitter, please' and each time we are served, we have to say 'Thank you'. Similarly, the HK waiters will look down on us if we did not start our conversation with 'thank you' and ending with 'thank you' (in Cantonese) to be polite.
